FARMERS MARKET STALL HOLDERS
FARMERS MARKET STALL HOLDERS
We welcome applications from local producers who would like to trade at Duck Pond Farmers Market
Summary criteria for stallholders
Farmers’ markets are all about selling local produce, and supporting farmers by selling direct from the farmer /producer to the public. We define local as being within 50 miles of the market. (However if a producer cannot be found within 50 miles, then we will accept up to 100 miles radius of the market) As we are all about local, the closest farms / producers would be ’preferred’ if doing the same produce, subject to quality.
Stallholders may only sell produce that they have grown, reared, caught, brewed, pickled, baked, smoked or processed themselves. They are required to have Public and Product liability insurance, as well as local authority environmental health checks completed (where applicable). Stallholders must also ensure that the appropriate Food Hygiene Training has been completed and are certified for all staff working on a stall.
For secondary produce (baked, pickled, smoked, brewed or processed goods) your product must contain at 25% local ingredients, the rest should be UK ingredients. If the ingredient cannot be sourced in the UK, then it should be fairly traded ie responsibly sourced. As much as possible should be sourced direct from the farmer or through stalls at Farmers Markets.
Fair trade/responsibly sourced products with local ingredients below 25% will be considered on an individual basis. The criteria will be related to support for farmers and fit with the market ethos and market products.
For secondary producers the base product should be substantially altered.
Specific criteria
Animals must be reared on the producers land (or land made available to the producer) for at least 50% of the animals life, or at least one third of its life for “finished” cattle.
No bought-in produce or commercially made mixes are allowed, and where processed foods are to be sold, at least 25% of the ingredients or raw materials used should be sourced locally (this includes: no margarine to be used, no artificial colours, flavours or preservatives)
Any plants being sold at the Farmers’ Market must have been grown from seed, cuttings or have been potted on from plugs. Plants from plugs must not be sold on until the plant is well established. Producers must not buy in mature plants for immediate resale.
At Market:
Pre booked pitches outside and also the single pitches inside are £23 if booked more than a week before the date of the market. Outside traders have more space to make up for having no protection! For traders paying within a week of the market, all certificates must be produced before setup and the pitch price is £30 cash.
Stalls must be staffed by the producer, a family member or someone who is directly involved in producing the goods on sale.
Each producer’s stall should be clearly signed with the business name. In addition produce should be clearly labelled with the producer’s name and place of business in addition to legal labelling requirements.
To make sure that we can guarantee the provenance and quality of all goods sold at Duck Pond Farmers’ Market all potential stall holders will be audited before they can trade at our markets.
